Children

Is your child hurting?  As a parent, one of the most devastating and frustrating things is the awareness your child is hurting or struggling and not knowing how to help them.  We long to stop their pain, ease their frustrations, help them overcome the challenges they face, generate hope in the midst of their present circumstances, ensure their safety, embrace their unique gifts and abilities, as well as help them see how precious and important they are to us.

Sometimes what is bothering a child is obvious to us.  For example, if there has been a major life event such as their parents separating, divorcing, remarrying, adopting, or choosing to become foster parents, loss of a loved one (including pet), a medical diagnosis, parent’s loss of a job and/or home, moving, or witnessing/experiencing trauma.  If a disability is present, the child may be noticably struggling with self-esteem issues, anger, frustration, and never feeling _______ enough.  If they are wrestling with identity issues, you may see them searching to find where they fit in and testing tolerance level(s) to see if they will still be loved and accepted.

However, sometimes as parents, we know something is wrong but we can’t figure out what it is.  You may have noticed increasing behavioral issues, disrespectful attitudes, a drop in their grades and performance at school, increased inattentiveness, fidgetiness, or withdrawl and isolation.   Despite a parent’s best efforts to talk to their child and discover what is wrong, sometimes they just won’t tell what is bothering them.  This can leave a parent feeling frustrated, angry, overwhelmed, and even helpless.  You don’t know whether what you are doing is helping or hindering.

Whether your child is crying out, “You know what’s wrong but you’re not doing anything about it!”  or  silently showing you, “I need help,” The Center for Family & Crisis Counseling is here to assist you in discovering the issues your child is facing, the causes of those issues, find ways to resolve them, and unite the family in finding hope, help, and healing.
